For Dr. Messenger, dentistry provided an opportunity to meld her love of science and her passion for helping people into one career. Dr. Messenger grew up in Rochester, NY, and spent four years studying biochemistry at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she met her husband, Trevor.
After graduating from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2010, Dr. Messenger completed a one-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She then served as the Chief Dental Resident at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical College. In these residencies, Dr. Messenger gained valuable knowledge and experience in pediatric dentistry, geriatric care, hospital dentistry, and with cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
In 2013, Dr. Messenger and Trevor welcomed their son, Henry, and decided to set roots in Durham, North Carolina to be closer to family. Before purchasing the practice of Dr. Ronald Spain, Dr. Messenger taught at UNC Adams School of Dentistry and worked in private practice. Dr. Messenger is proud to provide patients with conservative care to make an immediate, tangible impact on their health. She relishes getting to know her patients.
Outside of the office, Dr. Messenger can be found spending time with her family, working out, watching British dramas and spy tv shows, and cooking healthy meals.

Sarah was born and raised in Boone, NC, where she spent her summers outdoors and winters on the ski slopes. During high school, Sarah interned with her childhood dentist and orthodontist, a decision that cemented her passion for dentistry. Sarah completed her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009.
Sarah joined our practice in August 2012 and has come to see all her patients as family. She loves watching her patients grow and share in their life experiences, but most importantly, she loves being able to give them a beautiful smile!
Sarah married her husband, Kevin, in 2019. When she is not in the office, you will find Sarah at her local farmers’ market, in the yoga studio or gym, cooking in her kitchen, or cheering on the sidelines at a hockey game.
Tanisha was born and raised in Mebane, NC, where she currently resides with her husband, JC. She has two grown children, Jonas and CJ, who live locally.
Tanisha joined the practice in 2010. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, decorating, traveling and spending time with her family. She believes that even the darkest day can be brightened with a smile.
