The Importance of

Dental Cleanings, Exams & X-Rays

Visiting our office every six months allows Dr. Messenger to track your oral health, check for signs of tooth decay and gum disease, and remove cavity-causing substances from your mouth. Dental cleanings, exams, and x-rays are affordable and often are covered by dental insurance. Thorough cleanings will keep your mouth healthy and they’ll also ensure that your teeth look and feel their best.

Strengthen Teeth

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments are the best way to strengthen teeth that have been weakened by minor decay. Fluoride has the unique ability to remineralize teeth by attracting minerals like phosphate and calcium. These minerals are naturally found in teeth and provide necessary strength and structure. Fluoride treatments can even reverse the first stage of tooth decay (known as “soft spots”) and prevent cavities from forming. The treatment takes only a few minutes. After your routine cleaning, Dr. Messenger will simply apply a fluoride varnish onto your teeth to strengthen your teeth and reverse minor decay.

Prevent Cavities

Dental Sealants

If you are cavity-prone, dental sealants can help protect your smile. Sealants consist of a tooth colored or white dental resin, that is applied to your rear teeth in liquid form. Then, Dr. Messenger uses a UV light to harden the resin and create a strong barrier. This protects your enamel from coming in contact with oral bacteria, acid, and food particles, preventing the formation of cavities. When properly applied, dental sealants can last up to 10 years.

Fight Back Against Gum Disease

Periodontal Care

Periodontal care is necessary if you’re suffering from gum disease. Common signs of gum disease include inflammation and discoloration of the gums, tenderness around the gums, bleeding when brushing, and bad breath (halitosis) that won’t go away.

If you have gum disease, it’s important to get periodontal care right away to keep it from progressing and causing permanent damage. Dr. Messenger can provide you with treatments like full mouth debridement or scaling & root planing (deep cleaning), which removes plaque and tartar from between your gums and the roots of your teeth. Along with an antibiotic rinse, this is usually enough to help control most cases of gingivitis and preserve your oral health.
